FuelPatrol – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how FuelPatrol ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the FuelPatrol app, including the Apple Watch companion app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly and transparently. By using FuelPatrol, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Location data is the primary information we collect in order to provide the core functionality of the App. How we collect and handle your location depends on how you use the App.

When using the App actively When you open FuelPatrol and use it to search for nearby fuel stations or plan a route, we access your device's location in real time to identify relevant stations in your area. This location data is used only to fulfil your request and is not stored on our servers once the request has been completed.

When background alerts are enabled If you choose to enable Price Alerts with Real-Time Updates, the App will periodically access your location in the background in order to check for cheap fuel stations near wherever you are at that time. In this case, your most recent location is retained on our servers only for as long as is necessary to send you relevant alerts. It is not stored permanently and is replaced each time your location updates. You can disable this at any time through the Alerts settings within the App or through your device's location settings.

When background alerts are disabled If you use Price Alerts without Real-Time Updates enabled, your location is not accessed in the background and no location data is stored on our servers between active sessions.

We may also collect basic technical information about your device, such as the operating system version and app version, solely for the purpose of diagnosing technical issues and improving the performance of the App. This information cannot be used to identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes only:

To show you fuel stations and prices near your current location
To find fuel stations along a route you have entered
To send you price alert notifications for stations near your location, where you have enabled this feature
To maintain and improve the technical performance of the App

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes. We do not build user profiles or track your behaviour across other apps or websites.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

We use Apple Maps to provide mapping and navigation features within the App. Information passed to Apple Maps for this purpose is subject to Apple's own Privacy Policy, which we encourage you to review. Beyond this, we do not share your data with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

Data Retention

For users who do not have Real-Time Alerts enabled, no location data is retained on our servers beyond your active session. Once you close the App, no personal data remains stored.

For users who have Real-Time Alerts enabled, your most recently recorded location is stored solely to enable the alert functionality. This data is automatically overwritten each time your location updates and is permanently deleted if you disable Real-Time Updates or revoke the App's location permissions.

We do not retain any personal data longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. In the United Kingdom and European Economic Area, these include:

The right to access the personal data we hold about you
The right to request correction of any inaccurate data
The right to request deletion of your personal data
The right to withdraw consent for location access at any time
The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Location Permissions

FuelPatrol requires location access to function. You can manage location permissions at any time through your iPhone or Apple Watch settings. The App supports the following permission levels:

"While Using the App" Location is accessed only when the App is open and in use. No background location access is granted. Price Alerts will still function but without Real-Time Updates.

"Always" Location is accessed in the background to power Real-Time Price Alerts. This is optional and only recommended if you wish to receive alerts based on your current location throughout the day.

You will be prompted to choose your preferred permission level when you first use the App. You can change this at any time in your device settings.

Children's Privacy

FuelPatrol is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it promptly.

Security

We take the security of your data seriously. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. Where we make significant changes, we will notify you through the App or via the App Store update notes. The date at the top of this policy will always reflect when it was last updated. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
